Thanasis Tsimpinis Portrays Uncannily Timely Tale of Apocalyptic Dystopia in New Short Film
'Escaping The Fragile Planet' by the El Colony director depicts prophetic tale of love written and shot before the pandemic
's Thanasis Tsimpinis has directed a timely tale of apocalyptic dystopia, imminent threat, end of personal freedom and togetherness through isolation, in short film 'Escaping The Fragile Planet'. It captures the theme perfectly, reflecting the sentiment when the film was first seen on completion - before the pandemic hit the world and this eerie short love story became a reality.
Thanasis Tsimpinis, the writer and director of the film, is not the Oracle of Delphi, of course, but a creator highly attuned to people's feelings and fears. In his own words - love story in essence, 'Escaping The Fragile Planet' is a “metaphor for something bigger, living in the moment as an act of courage”.
The characters are seen wandering an empty city during ‘lockdown’ wearing masks. In reality, the film was shot mid July 2019 way ahead of lockdown. Written in early 2017, it was selected for finding by the Greek Film Centre in 2018 and produced by Marni Films
'Escaping the Fragile Planet' premieres this September at the Athens International Film Festival, shortly followed by Drama International Short Film Festival. Follow @fragileplanetfilm
